Fabrikantenmerken

Fabrikantenmerken were a type of German semi-automated machine guns developed during World War I. The name "Fabrikantenmerken" is German for "manufacturer's marks," and it refers to the distinctive marks or codes embossed on the receiver of each gun, which identified the manufacturer responsible for producing the firearm.

The Fabrikantenmerken machines were produced between 1915 and 1918 by several German manufacturers, including Merkel, Mauser, and Sauer. Each company used a unique stamp on the receiver to distinguish their products, which was otherwise identical to other Fabrikantenmerken guns. The marks were typically found on the right side of the receiver, near the trigger guard.

Fabrikantenmerken machines were designed to be simple and rugged, easy to maintain and operate. They were equipped with an air-cooled barrel and a magazine holding 20 or 30 rounds, depending on the variant. The gun was capable of firing all types of ammunition, including pistol and rifle cartridges. The Fabrikantenmerken guns were widely used by German infantry units during World War I, particularly on the Eastern Front.

The production of Fabrikantenmerken machines was suspended at the end of the war, and the design was not continued after the Treaty of Versailles prohibited the production of machine guns. However, many original Fabrikantenmerken guns survived and were obtained by various countries after the war. They remained in use in some countries until the start of World War II.
