Fablok

Fablok, officially known as Fabryka Lokomotyw Chrzanów, was a prominent Polish manufacturer of rolling stock, particularly steam locomotives. Established in 1917 in Chrzanów, Poland, the company played a significant role in the development of Polish rail infrastructure during the interwar period and after World War II.

During its operational years, Fablok produced a wide variety of steam locomotives for both domestic and international markets. These included passenger, freight, and shunting locomotives, catering to different railway gauges and operational needs. Notable models included the Ol49 series for passenger services and the Ty2 series for freight. The company also manufactured other railway equipment, such as tenders and brake vans.

Fablok's production capabilities were crucial for rebuilding and expanding Poland's railway network, especially after the destruction caused by both World Wars. The company adapted to technological advancements over time, though its primary focus remained on steam technology for a considerable period. In its later years, Fablok also ventured into manufacturing diesel locomotives and other industrial equipment.

The company faced economic challenges in the post-communist era, leading to restructuring and eventual closure. Despite its closure, Fablok's legacy endures through the many locomotives it produced, some of which are preserved in museums and heritage railways, serving as a testament to Poland's industrial heritage.
