FTE equivalents, often abbreviated as FTEs, are a unit of measurement used to express the workload of employees in terms of full-time positions. One FTE equivalent typically represents one full-time employee working a standard number of hours per week, such as 40 hours. To calculate FTE equivalents, the total hours worked by all employees are divided by the standard number of hours for a full-time employee. For example, if a company has two employees working 20 hours per week each, and a full-time employee works 40 hours per week, these two part-time employees would together represent one FTE equivalent (20 hours + 20 hours = 40 hours, which is 40 hours / 40 hours = 1 FTE). Similarly, an employee working 30 hours per week would represent 0.75 FTE equivalents (30 hours / 40 hours = 0.75 FTE).
