Fényhosszúságtól is a Hungarian term that translates to "from the wavelength of light." It refers to the concept of wavelength, which is a fundamental property of light and other electromagnetic waves. Wavelength describes the spatial period of a periodic wave—the distance over which the wave's shape repeats. It is commonly measured in meters, nanometers, or angstroms.

The visible spectrum of light, which humans can perceive, is a small portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. Different wavelengths within this visible range correspond to different colors. For instance, shorter wavelengths are perceived as violet and blue, while longer wavelengths are seen as red and orange. The unit nanometer (nm) is frequently used to describe these visible light wavelengths, with the visible spectrum typically ranging from about 380 nm (violet) to 750 nm (red).

Beyond visible light, electromagnetic radiation encompasses a much wider range of wavelengths, including radio waves (long wavelengths), microwaves, infrared radiation, ultraviolet radiation, X-rays, and gamma rays (short wavelengths). The energy carried by a photon of light is inversely proportional to its wavelength; shorter wavelengths carry more energy than longer ones. This relationship is described by Planck's equation, E = hc/λ, where E is energy, h is Planck's constant, c is the speed of light, and λ is the wavelength.
