Eusébio

Eusébio da Silva Ferreira, widely known as Eusébio, was a Portuguese professional footballer who played as a forward. Born in Lourenço Marques, Portuguese Mozambique, on January 25, 1942, he is considered one of the greatest players of all time. Eusébio began his career with Sporting Lourenço Marques before moving to Benfica in 1960, where he achieved legendary status.

At Benfica, Eusébio spent 15 seasons, scoring 638 goals in 614 official matches. He was instrumental in the club's success, helping them win 11 Primeira Liga titles, 5 Taça de Portugal titles, and the European Cup in 1962. His prolific goal-scoring earned him the nickname "Black Panther" for his speed, athleticism, and predatory finishing. Eusébio was the top scorer in the 1966 FIFA World Cup with nine goals, leading Portugal to a third-place finish. He was also awarded the Ballon d'Or in 1965.

Eusébio represented the Portugal national team 64 times, scoring 41 goals. His career extended beyond Benfica, playing for various clubs in Portugal and abroad, including a brief stint in the North American Soccer League. After retiring from playing, Eusébio remained involved with football, serving as a ambassador for Benfica and promoting the sport. He passed away on January 5, 2014, at the age of 71, leaving behind a legacy as one of football's most iconic figures.
