Eurokod

Eurocode refers to a set of harmonized European standards for structural design. These standards are developed by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) and are intended to ensure the safety, serviceability, and durability of buildings and civil engineering works across the European Union and other participating countries. Eurocodes cover a wide range of structural materials and types of construction, including concrete, steel, composite steel and concrete, timber, masonry, and aluminum. They also address various aspects of structural engineering, such as general rules for building and civil engineering works, geotechnical design, earthquake resistance, and the design of hydraulic structures.

The primary objective of Eurocodes is to provide a common technical basis for structural design, facilitating the free movement of construction products and services within the European Economic Area. By offering a unified set of design principles and calculation methods, Eurocodes aim to reduce technical barriers to trade and promote a consistent level of structural safety. While Eurocodes provide a framework for design, individual member states are responsible for adopting them into their national legislation and may issue National Annexes to specify particular values or options allowed by the codes. This approach allows for local conditions and traditions to be taken into account while maintaining a harmonized European standard.
