Etilauksille

Etilauksille is a system of written expression in which the Finnish language is represented using a unique combination of characters and diacritical marks. The system was developed in the late 19th century by a group of Finnish reformers who sought to create a written form of the language that was more phonetically accurate than the existing Swedish-based orthography.

Etilauksille is closely tied to the Finnish Revival movement, a cultural and literary movement that aimed to promote the use of the Finnish language in all areas of life. The new written system was intended to help spread literacy and standardize the language, allowing it to become a truly national language.

The etilauksille system consists of several diacritical marks that are placed above, below, or next to the letter they modify. These marks indicate changes in the pronunciation of the sound, such as lengthening or shortening of vowels, or changes in the quality of consonants. While the system was not universally adopted, it was still used in various Finnish dialects and continue to be used by some groups.

Despite its intended purpose, the etilauksille system encountered opposition from the Finnish government and linguistic traditionalists, who felt that it was too complex and would hinder the standardization of the language. Today, the etilauksille system is no longer widely used in Finland, and the country has standardized on a modified Swedish-based orthography. However, the system remains an interesting example of the history and development of the Finnish language. Etilauksille has left a lasting legacy on Finnish orthography and culture.
