Ethernetteknologien

Ethernetteknologien, also known as Ethernet technology, is a widely used standard for local area networks (LANs). It was developed by the Xerox Corporation in the 1970s and has since become the dominant technology for wired networking. Ethernet operates at the data link layer of the OSI model and uses a Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection (CSMA/CD) protocol to manage data transmission.

The most common Ethernet standards are defined by the IEEE 802.3 series. These standards specify various speeds and physical layer implementations, including twisted pair, fiber optic, and coaxial cable. The most prevalent speeds are 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps (Fast Ethernet), 1 Gbps (Gigabit Ethernet), 10 Gbps, 40 Gbps, and 100 Gbps. Each of these standards supports full-duplex communication, allowing for simultaneous data transmission and reception.

Ethernet technology has evolved significantly over the years, with advancements in speed, reliability, and scalability. It has become the backbone of modern networking infrastructure, supporting a wide range of devices and applications. Ethernet's simplicity, robustness, and scalability have made it an essential component of both residential and enterprise networks.
