Ethernetport
An Ethernet port is a common connector found on network devices such as computers, routers, switches, and modems. It is used to establish a wired network connection, typically for local area networks (LANs). The most prevalent type of Ethernet port is the RJ45 connector, a modular plug that mates with a corresponding socket. Ethernet ports facilitate the transmission of data packets using the Ethernet protocol, enabling devices to communicate with each other and access the internet. They come in various speeds, commonly ranging from 10 Mbps (Fast Ethernet) to 1 Gbps (Gigabit Ethernet) and even 10 Gbps and higher for specialized applications. The physical connection provides a stable and often faster alternative to wireless networking, although it requires a physical cable to link devices. When an Ethernet cable is plugged into a port, a link is established, indicated by an LED light on the port itself, which usually flashes to show network activity.
