EteläPohjanmaa

Etelä-Pohjanmaa, or South Ostrobothnia, is one of Finland's 19 regions (maakunta). It lies in western Finland and forms part of the Ostrobothnian cultural area. The regional capital and largest city is Seinäjoki. The region’s population is around 180,000–200,000 inhabitants, with Finnish as the predominant language and a small Swedish-speaking minority.

Geography and economy: The landscape is largely flat and agricultural, with many lakes and wooded areas. Agriculture—especially dairy farming and grain production—remains a cornerstone of the local economy, complemented by food processing, wood products, and light manufacturing.

Culture and landmarks: Seinäjoki hosts the Seinäjoen Tangomarkkinat, one of Finland's largest cultural events. The city is also known for a cluster of modernist buildings designed by Alvar Aalto that form a distinctive architectural center. The region has a strong Ostrobothnian agrarian heritage reflected in local traditions and events.

Transport and administration: Seinäjoki serves as a regional transport hub, with rail and road connections to Helsinki, Oulu, and other parts of the country. The region is administered by the Etelä-Pohjanmaa Regional Council (Maakuntaliitto Etelä-Pohjanmaa) and comprises multiple municipalities with Seinäjoki as the core urban center.
