Eteisien

Eteisien refers to the people, language, and culture associated with Eteisia, a coastal archipelago in the western seas of the continent of Solara. The term is used by scholars and speakers to designate the ethnolinguistic complex historically tied to the isles and their hinterland.

The ethnonym Eteisien derives from the ancient name Eite. The Eteisian language forms a small cluster with two main dialects, Northern Eteisien and Southern Eteisien. It is written in a syllabic script that circulated among traders and has since been transliterated into Latin script for modern use.

Historically, Eteisian communities are evidenced by Bronze Age remains on several islands. They built a network of maritime city-states that conducted long-distance trade with inland kingdoms. In the medieval period a loose federation coordinated navigation and harbor rights; later, external conquests and epidemics contributed to its decline.
