Eriseadusteta

Eriseadusteta is a fictional genus of microflora described in speculative fiction and worldbuilding materials. It is not recognized by real taxonomic authorities and serves as a narrative element in settings that imagine luminescent, dust-like organisms inhabiting coastal caves and fog-bound shores. In-universe, eriseadusteta forms iridescent dust on mineral surfaces and can glow faintly at night.

Taxonomically, it is placed in an imagined family Eriseaceae, with the type species Eriseadusteta luminosa and several varieties such as E. caliginosa and E. aurea.

The organisms are microscopic, 20–60 micrometers, occurring as unicellular or colonial aggregates. They have photosynthetic pigments that yield a silvery-blue sheen when illuminated, and they reproduce via lightweight spores released from disturbed colonies.

They inhabit damp rock faces, basalt and limestone, in temperate coastal caves and fog belts. They prefer high humidity and low light, thriving where minerals are wet. The dust can be wind-dispersed and contributes to nutrient transfer within microhabitats, functioning as primary producers and associating with microbial mats.

In the fiction, eriseadusteta dust is collected as pigment and used in luminescent signage and ritual crafts. The name combines the region of Erisea with a dust-like texture, and the type locality is described in the in-universe Compendium.
