Eriilmesi

eriilmesi is a Turkish term referring to the act or process of reaching or attaining something. The standard Turkish spelling is erişilmesi, formed from the verb erişmek (to reach or attain) with the passive marker -il- and the nominalising suffix -mesi. In formal Turkish, erişilmesi is used to discuss attainability, reach, or feasibility of goals or outcomes. The variant spelling eriilmesi may appear when Turkish diacritics are omitted or in non-Turkish texts, but it is considered nonstandard.

Etymology and morphology: erişilmesi is derived from the root eriş-, with the passive infix -il-, followed by -mesi to create a noun meaning "the act of being reached" or "attainment." The term belongs to nominalised clauses frequently used in analysis, planning, or academic writing. Because of Turkish orthography and standard spelling rules, the proper form includes the Turkish letter ş.

Usage and examples: In Turkish usage, one can say: "Bir hedefin erişilmesi için gerekli adımlar belirlendi" meaning "The steps necessary to attain a goal were defined." "Erişilmesi güç olan bir bölgeyi incelemek üzere çalışmalar yürütülüyor" meaning "Work is underway to study a region that is difficult to reach." Note that erişilmesi often appears with a complement indicating what is to be reached (hedef, bilgi, ulaşım, vb.) and frequently appears in clauses with için (for) or other constructions describing attainability or feasibility.
