Erfolgsrechnungen
Erfolgsrechnungen, also known as profit and loss statements or income statements, are fundamental financial documents that businesses use to report their financial performance over a specific period. They detail a company's revenues, costs, and expenses incurred during that time. The primary purpose of an Erfolgsrechnung is to show whether a company has made a profit or a loss. The structure typically begins with gross sales or revenue, from which the cost of goods sold is deducted to arrive at the gross profit. Operating expenses, such as salaries, rent, and marketing, are then subtracted from the gross profit to determine the operating income. Further adjustments for non-operating items like interest income or expenses and taxes lead to the net income or net loss for the period. Erfolgsrechnungen are crucial for internal management to assess operational efficiency and profitability, and for external stakeholders like investors and creditors to evaluate the company's financial health and investment potential. They are a key component of a company's overall financial reporting, alongside the balance sheet and cash flow statement.
