Epäinertiaalivoimat

Epäinertiaalivoimat, or non-inertial forces, are apparent forces that arise in a non-inertial frame of reference. An inertial frame of reference is one that is not accelerating, meaning it is either at rest or moving at a constant velocity. In contrast, a non-inertial frame is accelerating.

When an observer is in a non-inertial frame, they perceive forces acting on objects that are not caused by any physical interaction between objects. These apparent forces are called epäinertiaalivoimat. They are a consequence of the observer's own accelerated motion. From the perspective of an inertial frame, no such forces exist; the motion of objects is explained solely by Newton's laws of motion and the real forces acting upon them.

The most common epäinertiaalivoimat include the centrifugal force, the Coriolis force, and the tangential force. The centrifugal force appears in rotating frames of reference and is directed outward from the axis of rotation. The Coriolis force also arises in rotating frames and acts perpendicular to both the object's velocity and the axis of rotation. The tangential force is present when the rotational speed of the frame is changing, acting in the direction of the change in angular velocity.

Examples of epäinertiaalivoimat are commonly observed in everyday life. For instance, when a car accelerates, passengers feel pushed back into their seats, which is a manifestation of inertia. In a rotating merry-go-round, children feel an outward push, which is the centrifugal force. Understanding epäinertiaalivoimat is crucial for accurately describing motion in accelerating systems, such as in meteorology, where the Coriolis force influences wind patterns, or in astrophysics, when analyzing the dynamics of rotating celestial bodies.
