Enkelvikling is a term used in electrical engineering that refers to a coil or winding that consists of a single layer of turns of wire. The concept is often applied in the design of transformers, inductors, and motors. In a single‑layer winding, all turns of the wire lie in the same plane or on a single layer of the core, as opposed to multi‑layer or double‑pair windings where the wire is stacked in several layers or wrapped in pairs to reduce wiring length and improve magnetic coupling.

The primary advantage of a enkeltvikling is its simplicity of construction and reduced material cost. Because the wire is laid in one continuous path, the resistance is typically lower than in a comparable multi‑layer winding, which can improve efficiency. However, there are disadvantages. For high‑power applications where heat dissipation and magnetic uniformity are critical, double‑layer or interleaved windings are often preferred.
