It refers to the total amount of debt a company or organization has in relation to a specific unit of measurement. This unit can be various things, such as a manufactured product, a service, an employee, a square meter of real estate, or even a single customer.

The purpose of calculating enhetsskuld is to provide a more granular understanding of a company's financial leverage. By dividing the total debt by the number of units, businesses can better assess the burden of their debt relative to their operational scale or output.
