Energiekurven

Energiekurven, also known as energy curves or power curves, are graphical representations used in the field of energy engineering and renewable energy to illustrate the relationship between wind speed and the power output of a wind turbine. These curves are essential for understanding the performance and efficiency of wind turbines under varying wind conditions.

The x-axis of an energiekurve typically represents the wind speed, while the y-axis shows the power output of the turbine. The curve usually starts at zero power output at very low wind speeds, as the turbine requires a minimum wind speed to begin generating power. As the wind speed increases, the power output also increases, following a roughly exponential or cubic relationship. This phase is known as the partial load range.

At higher wind speeds, the power output reaches a maximum, known as the rated power, which is the maximum power the turbine is designed to produce. This phase is called the full load range. Beyond this point, the power output remains constant, even if the wind speed increases further. This is due to the turbine's control systems, which limit the power output to protect the turbine and ensure grid stability.

In the very high wind speed range, known as the cut-out range, the turbine shuts down to prevent damage from excessive wind speeds. The energiekurve thus provides a clear picture of the turbine's operational limits and its efficiency across different wind conditions. This information is crucial for site selection, turbine design, and energy yield predictions in wind energy projects.
