Endocrinetropism

Endocrinetropism refers to the phenomenon where certain tissues or cells exhibit a specific responsiveness or attraction to endocrine signals, such as hormones. This concept highlights the targeted nature of hormonal action within the body. Hormones are chemical messengers produced by endocrine glands that travel through the bloodstream to reach target cells. Target cells possess specific receptors on their surface or within their cytoplasm that bind to particular hormones, initiating a cellular response. Endocrinetropism explains why a hormone, circulating throughout the body, affects only certain organs or tissues and not others. For instance, the hormone insulin is crucial for regulating blood glucose levels, and it primarily acts on liver, muscle, and adipose tissue cells due to the presence of insulin receptors on these cells.
