Emitoitavan

Emitoitavan is a fictional coastal city-state in the archipelago of Veridia. It sits on a crescent-shaped peninsula forming a natural harbor that serves as the city’s economic lifeblood. The area covers about 150 square kilometers and is home to around 120,000 residents. The city is governed by a unicameral council elected by residents, with a mayor-president serving as the executive. The name combines elements from the Veridian language and old maritime pidgin, loosely meaning "harbor of commerce."

Established as a trading post in the 14th century by seafaring families, Emitoitavan grew into an independent city-state by the 16th century. It developed legal autonomy, a merchant guild-linked economy, and a cosmopolitan culture. In the 19th century it joined the Veridian Federation as a semi-autonomous member, retaining its municipal government.

The topography includes low hills inland, a sheltered harbor to the west, and fertile plains to the south. The climate is temperate with mild winters and warm summers, moderated by sea breezes.

The harbor handles regional freight and passenger traffic; the city maintains a free-trade zone and a light manufacturing cluster focused on maritime equipment, assembly, and seafood processing. A small international airport connects to regional hubs; a rail line links Emitoitavan to neighboring towns and the federation capital.

The population is multilinguistic, with Veridian as the dominant language and a local creole used in markets. Cultural life centers on the Sea Festival, the Old Town quarter, and museums preserving maritime heritage.
