Elementzahlen
Elementzahlen is a German term that does not designate a single fixed concept in all disciplines. Depending on context, it can refer to the count of elements in a collection or, in everyday language, to the numbers associated with elements in chemistry. In chemistry the standard term for the number of protons in an atom is the atomic number, and the usual German term is Ordnungszahl; “Elementzahl” or “Elementzahl” is sometimes encountered informally but is not the precise technical term.
In mathematics and set theory, elementzahlen can be used to denote the cardinality of a set, written
In data analysis or combinatorics, elementzahlen may refer to frequency counts of elements within a collection.
- Cardinalität/Mächtigkeit: the size or number of elements of a set.
- Ordnungszahl: atomic number, the proton count of a chemical element.
- Frequency counts: practical counts of occurrences in data.
