Elektronisuihkukäsittely

Elektronisuihkukäsittely, often abbreviated as EB curing or electron beam curing, is a process that uses an electron beam to initiate polymerization or cross-linking of special liquid or semi-solid materials. These materials, known as curable formulations, contain monomers, oligomers, and photoinitiators. When exposed to the high-energy electrons from the electron beam, the photoinitiators break down, generating free radicals. These radicals then trigger a rapid chain reaction, causing the liquid formulation to solidify and form a hard, durable coating or material.

The primary advantage of Elektronisuihkukäsittely is its speed. Curing can occur in fractions of a second, which significantly increases production throughput. Unlike UV curing, EB curing does not require photoinitiators in the formulation, as the electrons themselves directly initiate the curing process. This can be beneficial for certain applications where residual photoinitiator byproducts might be undesirable. Furthermore, EB curing can penetrate thicker layers compared to UV curing and is effective on opaque or pigmented materials.

The process is typically carried out in a vacuum chamber to prevent the electrons from scattering in the air. The electron beam is generated by an electron gun and then scanned over the surface of the material to be cured.
