A molecule or atom that acts as an electron pair acceptor is one that can receive a shared pair of electrons from another species to form a coordinate covalent bond. This acceptor species typically has a vacant orbital or an electron deficiency, making it receptive to accepting electrons.

The most common examples of electron pair acceptors are Lewis acids. Lewis acids are defined as chemical species that can accept an electron pair.
