Elektronenmikroskopi is a powerful imaging technique used to visualize structures at the nanoscale level. Unlike traditional light microscopes, which use visible light, electron microscopes use a beam of electrons to illuminate the specimen. This allows for much higher resolution, enabling the observation of details as small as a few nanometers.

There are two main types of electron microscopes: transmission electron microscopes (TEM) and scanning electron microscopes (SEM). TEMs pass electrons through a thin specimen, creating an image on a fluorescent screen or digital detector. This method is particularly useful for studying the internal structure of cells, viruses, and other small biological specimens. SEMs, on the other hand, scan a focused beam of electrons across the surface of a specimen, collecting signals that contain information about the sample's topography and composition. This technique is ideal for examining the surface features of larger specimens, such as metals, ceramics, and biological tissues.

Electron microscopes are widely used in various fields, including materials science, biology, and medicine. They provide valuable insights into the structure and function of materials and biological specimens, contributing to advancements in research and development. However, the high cost and complexity of electron microscopes, as well as the need for specialized training to operate them, limit their accessibility and use.
