Electrotion

Electrotion is a hypothetical concept that describes the process by which a charged particle, typically an electron, is released or detached from an atom or molecule due to the influence of an electric field. While not a standard term in physics or chemistry, it draws parallels to phenomena like ionization and electron emission.

In a natural setting, electrons are bound to atoms by electromagnetic forces. To remove an electron, energy must be supplied, a process known as ionization. Electrotion, as envisioned, suggests that a sufficiently strong external electric field could overcome these binding forces, causing the electron to be pulled away. This is conceptually similar to field emission, where electrons are extracted from a material surface under the influence of a high electric field.

The strength of the electric field required for electrotion would depend on factors such as the binding energy of the electron to the atom or molecule and the geometry of the system. In some contexts, electrotion might be considered a mechanism for initiating chemical reactions or enabling electrical conductivity in certain materials.
