Eigeostationaariset

Eigeostationaariset refers to a concept related to geostationary orbits. A geostationary orbit is a specific type of geosynchronous orbit that a satellite takes around Earth. In this orbit, the satellite's orbital period is equal to Earth's rotational period, meaning it appears to stay in a fixed position in the sky relative to a specific point on the Earth's surface.

The term "eigeostationaariset" itself is a Finnish word. "Geo" refers to Earth, "stationaariset" means stationary, and "ei" is a negative prefix. Therefore, "eigeostationaariset" can be interpreted as "not geostationary" or "non-geostationary." This implies a contrast to the fixed position characteristic of geostationary satellites.

Satellites in orbits that are not geostationary might have different orbital periods or inclinations. For example, a low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite circles the Earth much faster and constantly moves across the sky. A polar orbit, another type of non-geostationary orbit, passes over or near the Earth's poles on each revolution, allowing it to observe the entire planet over time.
