Edlington

Edlington is a village and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Edlington is situated approximately four miles south-east of Doncaster town centre.

The village has a long history, with evidence of settlement dating back to Roman times. Edlington Castle, a Grade I listed building, is a significant historical landmark. While much of the castle is now in ruins, parts of the curtain wall and a gatehouse remain. The present-day village developed around the historical core and the former mining industry, which was once a major employer in the area.

In terms of amenities, Edlington has a primary school, a secondary school, and a range of local shops and services. The population of Edlington was recorded as 7,901 in the 2011 census. The civil parish encompasses the village of Edlington and the surrounding rural area. Edlington lies close to the A1(M) motorway and benefits from good transport links to Doncaster and other nearby towns. The River Don flows to the north of the village.
