E2Ftranskription refers to the process by which DNA sequences encoding E2F transcription factors are transcribed into messenger RNA (mRNA). E2F are a family of transcription factors that play a crucial role in regulating the cell cycle, particularly the transition from the G1 phase to the S phase, which is the phase of DNA replication.

The genes encoding E2F proteins are activated at specific points in the cell cycle. Their transcription into mRNA is tightly controlled by various signaling pathways and regulatory proteins. Once transcribed, the E2F mRNA is translated into E2F proteins. These E2F proteins then bind to specific DNA sequences, known as E2F response elements, in the promoter regions of target genes.

This can occur due to mutations in tumor suppressor genes like pRB, which normally inhibit E2F activity, or through amplification of E2F genes themselves.
