Dunvegan

Dunvegan is a toponym used for several places, most notably a village on the Isle of Skye in Scotland and a hamlet in Alberta, Canada.

Dunvegan, Skye, lies on the northwest coast of the Isle of Skye and sits at the head of Loch Dunvegan. The settlement is best known as the site of Dunvegan Castle, the ancestral home of the Clan MacLeod for centuries. The castle has existed since at least the 13th century and has been expanded and rebuilt over time. It houses historic artifacts, including the Fairy Flag, a ceremonial banner of uncertain origin. The surrounding area features coastal scenery, traditional Gaelic culture, and local amenities supporting residents and visitors.

Dunvegan, Alberta, is a hamlet in the Peace River Country of Canada. The name is derived from the Scottish Dunvegan. Dunvegan Provincial Park surrounds Fort Dunvegan, a fur-trade fort first established in the early 19th century by the North West Company and later associated with the Hudson’s Bay Company. The park preserves the fort site and provides interpretation facilities, as well as opportunities for river viewing and hiking along the Peace River.
