Dunams
Dunams is a unit of area measurement, primarily used in China and some other Asian countries. The term "dunam" is derived from the Chinese word "dàn", which means "field" or "plot of land". One dunam is equivalent to 1,000 square meters or approximately 0.155 acres. The unit is often used in agricultural contexts to measure the size of farmland, orchards, and other large plots of land. Dunams are also used in real estate and urban planning to describe the area of residential and commercial properties. The use of dunams is part of the traditional Chinese system of measurements, which includes other units such as li (for length) and qian (for weight). In modern times, the metric system is more commonly used in China, but dunams remain in use in certain contexts due to their historical significance and practicality for measuring large areas of land.
