Dispersioonifaas

Dispersioonifaas refers to the material that is distributed throughout another substance in a heterogeneous mixture. This substance, often in the form of particles, droplets, or bubbles, is suspended within a continuous medium. The nature of the dispersed phase determines the type of dispersion. For example, in a solid-in-liquid dispersion, the dispersed phase is solid particles within a liquid medium. In a liquid-in-liquid dispersion, like an emulsion, tiny droplets of one liquid are dispersed in another immiscible liquid. In a gas-in-liquid dispersion, such as foam, gas bubbles are dispersed in a liquid. The size of the particles in the dispersed phase can vary significantly, ranging from microscopic to macroscopic. The stability of a dispersion depends on factors such as the interaction between the dispersed phase and the continuous phase, the presence of stabilizing agents, and external forces like agitation or gravity. Sedimentation or creaming can occur if the dispersed phase is not uniformly distributed and stable. Understanding the characteristics of the dispersed phase is crucial in many scientific and industrial applications, including in the formulation of pharmaceuticals, food products, paints, and cosmetics.
