Dispergenteja

Dispergenteja is a term used in several European languages to denote a chemical substance that facilitates the dispersion of solid particles in a liquid medium. In practice, it is equivalent to what is widely called a dispersant or dispersing agent. They are used to prevent particle agglomeration and to promote stable suspensions in paints, inks, cosmetics, concrete admixtures, and environmental remediation formulations.

Mechanism: Dispersing agents work by adsorbing onto particle surfaces, reducing interfacial tension, and providing charges or steric hindrance that stabilizes particles against collision-induced aggregation. Depending on the system, they may exert electrostatic stabilization (through ionic charges) or steric stabilization using polymers.

Forms and types: Dispersants come in several classes, including surfactant-based (ionic and nonionic), polymeric dispersants such as polyacrylates and polycarboxylates, and inorganic or natural substances like clays and humic substances. In cement and concrete technology, polycarboxylate ethers are common dispersants.

Applications: They are used in paints and coatings to improve pigment dispersion, in ink formulations for inkjet printing, in ceramics and concrete admixtures to reduce viscosity, in agrochemical suspensions, and in wastewater treatment to keep solids in suspension.

Evaluation and properties: Effectiveness is assessed by changes in particle size distribution, zeta potential, and rheology, as well as stability under storage and temperature variations. Preferences depend on solvent, pH, ionic strength, and compatibility with other formulation components.

Safety and regulation: Dispersants may have environmental or health impacts depending on their chemistry; many are subject to regulatory review under frameworks such as REACH or TSCA and require toxicity, biodegradability, and exposure assessments.
