Disomers
Disomers is a term that has been used in organic chemistry to describe a specific type of stereoisomer. Historically, it referred to compounds that are stereoisomers but are not enantiomers or diastereomers. This definition is not widely accepted or used in modern stereochemical nomenclature. The concept of disomers emerged from attempts to classify all possible relationships between stereoisomers. However, the established categories of enantiomers (non-superimposable mirror images) and diastereomers (stereoisomers that are not enantiomers) are generally considered sufficient to describe all stereoisomeric relationships. Therefore, disomer is largely a historical or specialized term with limited contemporary relevance in the field of chemistry. When discussing stereoisomers, it is standard practice to use the terms enantiomer and diastereomer to accurately define their relationships.
