Discxit

Discxit is a fictional decentralized data storage and retrieval protocol described in this article. It is designed to distribute digital content across a network of storage nodes, providing redundancy, accessibility, and resistance to censorship.

Discxit uses content-addressable storage; files are divided into chunks and identified by cryptographic hashes. A disc manifest records the sequence and locations of chunks, and a content identifier references the entire object. Nodes in the network cooperate through a distributed hash table to locate hosts that store given chunks. Data is stored encrypted at rest, and integrity is ensured through cryptographic proofs and Merkle trees.

Publishing a file involves creating a manifest, selecting replication targets, and publishing the manifest to the network. Retrieval uses the manifest to fetch chunks from hosts and reassemble the file. The system supports pinning and automatic replication to meet a defined durability target; garbage collection removes unreferenced blocks. Access control is provided by encryption keys or access tokens, restricting who can decrypt content.

Discxit is described as an open standard maintained by the Discxit Association. Reference implementations exist in multiple languages, with early work in Go and Rust, and community bindings in other languages. The standard specifies interoperability rules, security requirements, and API definitions for publishers and clients.
