Dimensioned

Dimensioned is an adjective used to describe physical quantities, objects, or models that have defined measurable dimensions and units. In contrast, dimensionless quantities have no intrinsic units and are pure numbers. The term is common in science, engineering, and design to emphasize the presence of units such as meters, kilograms, and seconds.

In practice, a dimensioned quantity includes both a numerical value and its unit, and equations or specifications are checked for dimensional consistency to ensure that operations make physical sense. Dimensional analysis helps verify formulas, convert units, and identify errors.

In engineering and drawing, dimensioning refers to the practice of annotating drawings with explicit measurements, tolerances, and references so that parts can be manufactured and assembled correctly. Dimensioned drawings may include notes on acceptable variation, material properties, and coordinate systems.

In mathematics and physics, many quantities are described as dimensioned, meaning they carry units; the concept contrasts with dimensionless numbers that result from canceling units. Area, for example, has dimensions of L^2, while speed has dimensions of L T^-1.
