Diablerets

Diablerets refers to a mountain massif in the western Swiss Alps, located on the border between the cantons of Vaud and Valais. The massif is characterized by its rugged peaks, glaciers, and a dramatic, almost volcanic landscape. The highest point is the Pic Chaussy at 3,220 meters, though other prominent summits include the Grand Diableret and Petit Diableret.

The name "Diablerets" is thought to derive from "diables" (devils), possibly due to the harsh and treacherous conditions of the area, which may have inspired local legends or superstitions. Historically, the region was difficult to access, and its glaciers have been a significant feature of the landscape, though like many alpine glaciers, they have experienced considerable retreat in recent decades.

The Diablerets are a popular destination for mountaineers and skiers. The Glacier 3000 is a well-known ski resort situated on one of the massif's glaciers, offering year-round skiing and panoramic views of surrounding peaks like the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc. Hiking trails also crisscross the lower slopes, providing access to alpine meadows and stunning vistas. The area's unique geological formations and alpine environment contribute to its appeal for both recreational activities and scientific study.
