Denkmallisten
Denkmallisten, or Denkmalliste in singular, are official inventories of cultural artifacts and sites that are granted legal protection as monuments. They are maintained by state or municipal cultural heritage authorities in German-speaking countries and are used to identify, document, and regulate culturally and historically significant properties and places. Each entry typically records the name of the site, its precise location, the designation status (for example Baudenkmale, Denkmal), the legal basis for protection, the date of designation, a short description, and notes on historical or architectural significance, period, and state of preservation. The scope covers buildings, parks, archaeological sites, bridges, landscapes, and sometimes movable monuments.
Denkmallisten function within a legal framework that restricts alterations, demolitions, or commercial use without official permission.
Administration varies by country and region. In Germany, for example, each state maintains its own Denkmalverzeichnis
