Delugejärjestelmässä

Delugejärjestelmässä, often translated as deluge system, is a type of automatic fire suppression system. It is designed to discharge a large volume of water over a specific area to control or extinguish fires. Unlike sprinkler systems, which activate individually based on heat, a deluge system has all of its sprinkler heads open at all times.

The system is activated by a separate detection mechanism, such as heat detectors, smoke detectors, or manual pull stations. Once the detection system is triggered, it sends a signal to a deluge valve, which opens and allows water to flow simultaneously to all the open sprinkler heads in the protected zone. This rapid and widespread discharge of water is particularly effective for fires involving flammable liquids or materials that can spread quickly.

Deluge systems are commonly found in high-hazard areas where rapid fire development is a significant concern. Examples include oil refineries, chemical plants, aircraft hangars, and certain types of storage facilities. The design and installation of deluge systems require specialized engineering to ensure proper coverage and water flow rates for the specific risks involved. The water discharged can also serve to cool surrounding structures, preventing fire spread. Maintenance and regular testing are crucial for the reliable operation of a deluge system.
