Delegació

Delegació (from French délégation) is a Catalan term used to describe two related notions: the act of entrusting authority or tasks to another person or body (delegació de potestats, delegació de funcions) and the body that exercises such authority on behalf of another (a delegation of representatives). It is common in public administration, corporate governance, and diplomacy.

In public administration, delegació refers to the transfer of decision-making powers to subunits or agencies within defined limits. The delegant remains legally responsible, and the delegate must act within the scope defined by the instrument. Delegation can be revoked or modified by the delegant, and oversight mechanisms usually ensure accountability.

In business, delegació enables managers to distribute tasks and decision rights to teams, while maintaining accountability through reporting lines and performance measures.

In diplomacy, a delegation is a group of officials or diplomats sent to negotiate or represent a state or organization at international meetings.
