Deadcells
Dead Cells is a roguelike action-platformer video game developed by Motion Twin and published by Devolver Digital. The game was released in 2018 for Microsoft Windows, macOS, Linux, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with a Nintendo Switch version released in 2019. It features a unique art style, inspired by 16-bit pixel art, and a dark fantasy setting. Players control a nameless protagonist who explores a series of interconnected levels, each filled with enemies, traps, and environmental hazards. The game's core mechanic involves the use of a variety of weapons and abilities, which can be upgraded and combined to create powerful synergies. Dead Cells also features a permadeath system, where the player's character dies permanently upon taking fatal damage, forcing them to restart from the beginning of the level with a new set of abilities and weapons. The game's levels are procedurally generated, ensuring a unique experience with each playthrough. Dead Cells has received critical acclaim for its tight gameplay, engaging combat, and innovative use of permadeath. It has won numerous awards, including Game of the Year at the 2018 Golden Joystick Awards. The game's success has led to the development of a sequel, Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania, which was released in 2020.
