Dapitan

Dapitan is a coastal city in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, Philippines. It lies on the northern coast of Mindanao along Dapitan Bay, facing the Sulu Sea. The city combines coastal and agricultural communities and serves as a local center for fishing, trade, and services.

Dapitan is best known internationally for its association with Jose Rizal, the Philippine national hero, who spent four years in exile there from 1892 to 1896. His residence and surrounding structures were preserved as the Rizal Shrine and Municipal Museum, which houses Rizal-era artifacts and documents. The shrine is designated as a national historic site and a major tourist and educational site.
