DNSresoluutiota is the Finnish term for DNS resolution. Domain Name System (DNS) is a hierarchical and decentralized naming system for computers, services, or other resources connected to the Internet or a private network. It translates human-readable domain names, such as www.example.com, into machine-readable IP addresses, like 192.0.2.1. This translation process is known as DNS resolution.

When a user enters a domain name into their web browser, their computer initiates a DNS query. This query is typically sent to a local DNS resolver, often provided by their Internet Service Provider (ISP). If the resolver has the IP address cached, it returns it directly. If not, it begins a recursive search.

The resolver contacts a root name server, which directs it to the appropriate top-level domain (TLD) name server (e.g., for .com or .org). The TLD server then points the resolver to the authoritative name server for the specific domain. The authoritative name server holds the actual DNS records, including the IP address, and returns it to the resolver. Finally, the resolver provides the IP address to the user's computer, allowing the browser to connect to the website. This entire process, DNSresoluutiota, happens very quickly, usually in milliseconds.
