Cyrilliclinked

Cyrilliclinked is a proposed framework for interoperable linking of Cyrillic-script resources across languages. It seeks to enable precise referencing and cross-language retrieval of texts that use Cyrillic scripts, covering languages such as Russian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Serbian, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, and many others.

The framework specifies a data model that separates textual content, transliteration, metadata, and cross-script links. It defines a system of unique identifiers (URIs) for named entities and textual fragments, transliteration mappings between Cyrillic and Latin scripts, normalization rules, and a set of link predicates for expressing relationships between resources. The approach is designed to be compatible with Unicode standards and existing linked-data conventions.

Applications include digital libraries, philology, translation studies, and natural language processing. Cyrilliclinked supports multilingual search, cross-script name matching, and archival interoperability, enabling researchers to trace the same entity or passage across languages that render Cyrillic text differently.

Development and status: an international collaboration began in the early 2020s to draft the specification and reference implementations. It is published as an open specification with community governance and iterative releases. Adoption remains limited, with ongoing work to collect use cases and align with standards such as RDF, SKOS, and ISO transliteration guidelines.
