Csillagtopológiában

Csillagtopológiában, often translated as star topology, is a network configuration where all devices are connected to a central hub or switch. This central point acts as a mediator for all communication between devices on the network. Each device has a dedicated connection to the hub, forming a star-like pattern.

In a star topology, data sent from one device to another first travels to the central hub. The hub then forwards the data to its intended destination. This design simplifies network management and troubleshooting. If a single cable fails, only the device connected to that cable is affected; the rest of the network continues to function.

However, a significant drawback of the star topology is its reliance on the central hub. If the hub fails, the entire network becomes inoperable. This makes the central hub a critical point of failure. The cost of implementing a star topology can also be higher due to the extensive cabling required for each device to connect to the hub. Despite this, its ease of management and fault isolation make it a popular choice for many local area networks (LANs).
