Csigolyaközti refers to the spaces or gaps located between adjacent vertebrae in the spinal column. These intervertebral spaces are crucial for the structural integrity and mobility of the spine. Within each csigolyaközti, the most prominent feature is the intervertebral disc. This disc is a complex fibrocartilaginous structure that acts as a shock absorber, distributing forces across the vertebrae and allowing for movement such as bending and twisting.

The intervertebral discs are composed of an outer annulus fibrosus, a tough, fibrous ring, and an inner nucleus pulposus, a gel-like center.
