Cryoscopekészülékek, often translated as cryoscopes or freezing point depression apparatus, are laboratory instruments used to determine the freezing point of a liquid. This measurement is a colligative property, meaning it depends on the concentration of solute particles in a solvent, rather than their identity. Therefore, by measuring the freezing point depression, one can infer the number of dissolved particles in a sample.

The fundamental principle behind a cryoscopekészülék relies on the fact that when a non-volatile solute is dissolved in a solvent, its freezing point is lowered. The extent of this lowering is directly proportional to the molal concentration of the solute.
