Crotonization
Crotonization refers to a type of chemical reaction that involves the addition of a crotonyl group. This group, derived from crotonic acid, is a four-carbon unsaturated carboxylic acid. The crotonyl group has the structure CH3CH=CHCO-. Therefore, crotonization is fundamentally an acylation reaction where the acylating agent is a derivative of crotonic acid, such as crotonyl chloride or crotonic anhydride.
These reactions are typically employed in organic synthesis to introduce the crotonyl moiety into another molecule.
The term "crotonization" itself is less common in everyday chemical literature compared to more general terms
