Coracohumerale

Coracohumerale, or ligamentum coracohumerale, is a ligament of the shoulder joint (the glenohumeral joint). It originates from the base of the coracoid process of the scapula and extends laterally to insert on the greater tubercle of the humerus, with several fibres blending into the joint capsule and, in part, with the nearby tendons of the supraspinatus and subscapularis.

As part of the capsular ligamentous complex of the glenohumeral joint, the coracohumeral ligament lies in the superolateral aspect of the shoulder. Its fibres help reinforce the superior capsule and contribute to the stability of the joint by limiting certain movements of the humeral head, particularly inferior translation when the arm is adducted. It often works together with other superior shoulder ligaments to provide static stabilization.

Clinically, injury or laxity of the coracohumeral ligament can be associated with shoulder instability or impingement syndromes. Degenerative changes or capsular thickening may be observed in various shoulder conditions. Imaging modalities such as MRI or ultrasound can assess the integrity and appearance of the ligament in the evaluation of shoulder pathology.
