Converse

Converse is a term with several related meanings in English and in technical fields.

As a verb, to converse means to engage in spoken communication with another person. It is used in everyday and formal contexts, as in "They conversed for hours about the issue."

As an adjective and in logic, converse refers to the reversal or opposite of something. In logic, the converse of a conditional statement "If p then q" is the statement "If q then p." The converse is not necessarily true even if the original statement is true; the contrapositive, "If not q, then not p," is a logically equivalent restatement.

In everyday language, converse can describe the opposite of a given rule or fact, though more common terms are opposite or inverse.

Converse also refers to a major footwear and apparel brand. The Converse Rubber Shoe Company was founded in 1908 by Marquis Mills Converse in Malden, Massachusetts. The company became widely known for the Chuck Taylor All-Star basketball shoe, introduced in the 1920s and later nicknamed the "Chuck Taylor." In 2003, Converse was acquired by Nike, Inc. and remains a subsidiary of Nike. The brand continues to produce sneakers and related apparel, preserving its iconic high-top silhouette and star-chevron logo.
