Comvoids

A comvoid is a hypothetical type of cosmological defect that could have formed during a phase transition in the early universe. The concept arises from theories of spontaneous symmetry breaking, where a fundamental force or particle field transitions from a high-energy, symmetric state to a lower-energy, less symmetric state. If this transition is not perfectly uniform across space, topological defects can be created, analogous to how cracks form in cooling glass.

Comvoids are specifically theorized to be a type of defect characterized by a region of vacuum where the scalar field is trapped in a false vacuum state. This false vacuum state is less stable than the true vacuum, and the comvoid represents a boundary where the field is attempting to transition to the lower energy state. Unlike some other topological defects, such as cosmic strings or domain walls, comvoids are not expected to possess a high energy density within themselves but rather represent an absence of the expected vacuum state.

The observational signatures of comvoids are not well-defined and remain a subject of theoretical investigation.
